NEWS AS AT 26 MARCH 08
Photo left of Stuart & 'Delights Azeem'  was taken at the Beach near Ward, south of Picton, on our way to  NZ National Endurance Champs held in Kurow 21 to 23 March 2008   -  Stu & Azeem were vetted out lame after the 3rd loop of the CEI***160km ride which was disappointing.  Possibly due to the hard dry stoney track plus there were lots of rabbit holes & irrigation ditches.
Stuart had hoped to get through the 160km and get a 'Nationals Buckle' - but its not to be this year~!!       Our congratulations to the winner of the premier CEI***160km ride,  Jenny Champion & 'Freckles' (by  'Ngapa Light'  - deceased - a half brother to our 'Ngapa Joussif').  'Freckles' also gained the Best Conditioned Award.   2nd place was Mark Tylee on 'Cyden Kay' who was bred by Mary & Chris Tylden, Cyden Arabian Stud (members of our KEAA alliance).   'Cyden Kay' is a granddaughter of 'Ngapa Joussif' and is by 'Cyden Sun'.
NZ North Island Endurance Champs Success
The N.I. Champs went very well for Stuart & 'Delights Azeem'  -  a very tough course with only 7 of 25 entries completing the 160 (Mark Tylee was 1st & Sue Reid 2nd).   Weather was very hot & dry but there was a breeze at times which was welcomed by horses & riders.  Stu & Azeem completed their CEI***160km ride to gain 3rd place and the next morning Azeem also won the 'Best Conditioned' Award, so we were thrilled.   See the Photo Montage below for photos from North Islands Champs plus photos from other rides during the Endurance seasons of 2006 and 2007   Click following link to open a file with North Island 160km Ride Results:   RESULTS  CEI***160km   Full results are on the Waikato Endurance Club website.

ENDURANCE NEWS September 2008

We attended the first Endurance Ride for the season for us at Rotorua on sunday 14th September  -  the ride was hosted by the newly formed Rotorua Endurance Club and they did a great job and provided a very good new scenic venue and riders really enjoyed the opportunity to see over land around Mt Tarawera  -  the Lake in the background is 'Rotoma' and is apparently where the world famous ancient wonder of the world, the Pink & White Terraces, used to be before Mt Tarawera blew its top in the late 1800's and buried everything around it.   A good turnout of competitors and with good entries in the 80km, 40km and 20km.
Photo left is of Stuart riding 'SD Evita' and Gayle Truscott riding our little mare 'Delights Sheba'  -  both horses completed their 40km ride well and vetted through with no problems.  Next ride for us will be at Tokoroa 4/5 October.
News 6th October 2008   Waikato Endurance Club Ride
4-5 October at Tokoroa venue went well with good entries.   However
the weather wasnt very kind on Sunday (rained all Saturday night and
all Sunday)  -  we didnt stay on Sunday and came home.
Stu rode 'SD Evita' in the 40km on Saturday and she went very well
vetting through with no problems and good heartrates.

Putaruru Endurance Ride on 2nd November 08 was another successful Waikato Endurance Club event held at
Leslie Road.  Stuart didnt compete at Putaruru but we did take Zelma
who rode 'Alabaster' in the 40km (very first outing for 'Alabaster').
Zelma is staying with us for a short time to experience some endurance
riding in NZ and is from Sth Africa.  She has been working in Malaysia for
several months for for the TMKN Endurance Training Centre owned by the
Crown Prince of Kelantan.  Zelma & Alabaster had a very good 40km ride
with the mare vetting through well.    Photos at left.

Counties Endurance Ride at Waiuku on 8-9 November was an excellent ride.   The Counties Club had put in alot of effort to make sure this event ran smoothly and was enjoyed by all with a tough but very scenic course.    'Delights Sheba' and 'SD Evita' were both entered in the 80km.  Unfortunately Zelma & Evita
went out lame at the 2nd Vetcheck.    Stuart and
Sheba completed a successful 80 coming into the
finishline in 2nd place.

Ruahine Endurance Club Ride
@ Pah Hill Station near Ohakune went very well and was well supported with 51 entries in the 80km Ride & good entries
in the other distances.   Zelma rode
'Delights Sheba' in 80km and finished
very well.  Stuart took 'Alabaster' and did
a 40km - she also went very well and
completed with no problems.

Stuart played a mean trick on her and asked the Vet to make Zelma run out twice at pre-vet which gave her quite a fright.
NEWS at 08 December 08.    Unfortunately the endurance competition season has come to a little standstill for Stuart just at the moment, with 'Evita' out with a slight tendon strain, and at last we found the reason for some problems with  'Sheba'.  We had been worried about her for a while, so got our Vet to check her over again and quite by accident he found she had a melanoma in the corner of her left eye, so he came back 3 days later to operate~!!

NEWS from NZ North Island Champs ~
Hosted by Taumarunui Club at Aria and very well supported.  Sheba had lost alot of fitness due to her eye operation (see below right), so she was entered in the 60km instead of the 120km.

She went very well and won the Championship 60km, leading most of the way.  Stu was very pleased with Sheba and to win the lovely big Gold Cup (from Dubai) which is awarded to the 1st placegetter of that event.
WAIKATO ENDURANCE CLUB'S Premier Ride for the 2008-2009 Season was held at Okoroire 7-8th February ~ photo above    Weather was very Hot and dry.  There were very good entries in all events of 120km, 80km, 60km, 40km & Fun Rides of 30km & 15km.   Stu & 'Delights Sheba' were entered in the CEI**120km (Sheba's very first 120km).      They completed the ride in 8 hours 15.50 mins and came in for 5th placing so Sheba did really well especially considering it was a very tough ride with some steep climbs, in very hot conditions.  Photo below is just before heading out on the 3rd and last 40km loop.   Our good friend Bruce Elliott left came to help with strapping and Stu's cousin Max, behind Sheba also helped with strapping and "rider welfare" with getting Stuart some electrolyte drinks (the day was soooo hot and Stu got a bit dehydrated)
WAITOMO ENDURANCE CLUB Ride - weekend 21/22 'SD Evita' successfully completed the 80km and is now qualified for a 1* ride, so Stu was very pleased with her.
